Danny Boyle's wacky work about a clique of junkies and petty criminals in Edinburgh is still an incomparably intense key work of British cinema of the 1990s, which ventures far beyond the boundaries of traditional British social realism.

"Say yes to life, say yes to a job, say yes to a career, say yes to a family... But why would I do that? I said no to saying yes. I said yes to something else. And the reason for that? There is no reason." Mark Renton indulges in a life of drug-induced intoxication. His fellow travelers on his trip are the lovable, simple-minded junkie Spud, Sick Boy, whose real addiction is actually James Bond films, and finally Tommy, who rejects drugs and is addicted to the great outdoors. But then there's the psychopath Begbie, a walking time bomb with devastating potential... After various absurd to highly traumatic episodes, Renton actually decides to stop shooting. But no sooner has he tried his hand at being a real estate agent in London than two of his old buddies show up again with a surefire plan for big money.

Not least because of its great soundtrack, TRAINSPOTTING became a British cult film of the 1990s and cleared the stage for a new generation of British actors.
