Hit the Road

A family drives through the magically beautiful landscape of Iran. In the back of their rental car sits the father with his leg in a cast. The mother tries to tame her little boy, who is constantly climbing around and playing all sorts of pranks. Only the couple's grown-up son doesn't say a word, sits at the wheel and looks stoically at the road. The fact that the journey, which initially seems aimless, is more than a harmless excursion becomes increasingly clear the further the family advances into the mountains in the north of the country...
"Hit the Road" premiered at the Cannes Festival and has won numerous awards. The film was directed by Panah Panahi, the son of the internationally renowned Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi ("Taxi Tehran"). Sometimes wonderfully funny, sometimes quietly touching: the road movie "Hit the Road" is full of poetic power, bursting with energy and at the same time characterized by a deep humanity and tenderness.
