Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives - Loong Boonmee raluek chat

CAP SUR LA NOUVELLE-ZELANDE - Casino de Montbenon, Lausanne

  • Film

After suffering from kidney failure, Uncle Boonmee suspects that he has little time left before he dies. He therefore sets off for northeast Thailand to await death surrounded by his family. In the evening, as Boonmee sits with his sister Jen and his nephew Tong, the ghost of Boonmee's wife Huay, who died many years ago, appears to them. A little later, an ape-like creature with piercing red eyes enters the lonely farmhouse and turns out to be Boonmee's son Boonsong, who mysteriously disappeared many years ago. Together with the living, Boonmee sets off on a final journey to the cave in which he was born and in which, according to his will, his life should end, while the ghosts introduce the dying to the secret of reincarnation. Apichatpong Weerasethakul's films are fairy tales about people in animal form, about reincarnation. Film and art merge, boundaries dissolve - and politics join in too. "Uncle Boonmee" is also an invitation to the audience to slip into other spheres themselves, to return to previous lives.
