Documentary about the photographer who lived with the Yanomami in the Amazon region.

Switzerland 2023, 90 min, Port/d, from about 14

Claudia Andujar is one of the most important photographers in the world. Born in Neuchâtel in 1931, she grew up near the Hungarian-Romanian border. Her paternal family fell victim to the Holocaust and she fled back to Switzerland with her mother. As a young woman, Claudia Andujar discovered her passion for photography and soon worked for well-known publications such as the American magazine "Life". Her path led her to Brazil, where she made close contacts with the indigenous Yanomami community in the Amazon region. This is where she created several of her most famous photo series, which are full of beauty, poetry and at the same time a political statement: They bring the destruction of the rainforest, against which Claudia Andujar fought for decades together with the Yanomami, to the public's attention.

The new film by two-time Swiss film award winner Heidi Specogna follows in the footsteps of the award-winning Claudia Andujar, whose work includes over 60,000 photographs and whose biography spans a wide historical arc across three continents. It also takes us to the rainforest, which is now more threatened than ever before, where a young, self-confident generation of indigenous activists continues the fight for their rights. The result is a unique, multifaceted, haunting portrait of the passionate photographer, activist and humanist Claudia Andujar.
