SUZUME is the story of the adolescent 17-year-old main character Suzume. The action takes place in various disaster areas in Japan, where Suzume has to close doors that cause devastation.
Suzume's story begins in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwestern Japan) when she meets a young man who says to her: "I'm looking for a door." Suzume actually finds a single, weathered door in the middle of a ruin, as if it had been spared from any disaster. Drawn by the power of the door, Suzume reaches out towards the doorknob... All over Japan, one door after another suddenly opens, causing destruction all around. Suzume has to close these portals to prevent even greater disaster. Never-before-seen landscapes, encounters and farewells... Countless challenges await Suzume along the way. Despite all the hurdles, Suzume's adventure sheds a glimmer of hope on our own battle against the worst fears and constraints of everyday life. This story of closing doors that connect our past with our present and our future will leave a lasting impression on all of our hearts.
