Just one year after the movie "Borg vs. McEnroe," which depicts the intense rivalry between Björn Borg and John McEnroe, a new film is being released with McEnroe as the main character. The focus is primarily on McEnroe's best season. Back in 1984, world tennis was dominated at will by the American and is still considered one of the most impressive seasons a player has ever played.
Filmmaker Julien Faraut has taken on this topic. What is particularly exciting is that Faraut was given access to many 16-millimeter film rolls from the 1984 French Open and incorporated them into his documentary. Original footage shows the dramatic Paris final between McEnroe and Ivan Lendl, which the Czech won 3:6, 2:6, 6:4, 7:5 and 7:5, thus inflicting McEnroe's first defeat of that season.
