Secondhand Orchestra - LOVE - Das Mundart - ABBA - Tribute

Wednesday, 6. November 2024

Volkshaus Basel, Basel

  • Sounds

After the great successes with the productions Sgt. Pepper and Freddie, the Secondhand Orchestra is presenting a new dialect show with ABBA hits.

In 1974 - exactly 50 years ago - ABBA achieved their breakthrough at the Grand Prix d'Eurovision. “Waterloo” marked the beginning of an unprecedented global career. The Swedish pop group became one of the most successful bands in music history. Although the band, which consisted of the two lovers Agneta and Björn as well as Benny and Anni-Frid, split up in 1982, their songs are still very popular today. In a multimedia concert production full of surprises, the Secondhand Orchestra with Roman Riklin, Daniel Schaub, Frölein Da Capo and Adrian Stern follows the eternally recurring course of love using parodic dialect versions of ABBA songs. ABBA hits like “Dancing Queen” or song gems like “The Winner Takes it all” are unrestrainedly interwoven with our own new dialect songs that have an associative connection to the original material. Radio legend FM François Mürner once again slips into the role of the tongue-in-cheek chronicler with audiovisual contributions. ABBA - The dialect show is a unique homage to the immortal hits of the Swedish songwriters and proves that ABBA still has the right soundtrack ready for every situation in our own love story. With the highly praised productions Sgt. Pepper and Freddie, the Secondhand Orchestra took the audience's hearts by storm. For this, the band was honored with the Comedy Award in 2022 and nominated for the Prix Walo as best musical theater production in 2023. Now Switzerland's most popular crossover troupe is meeting the high expectations and, after the Beatles and Queen, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of ABBA's breakthrough with their third tribute show.
