Chiara, die Tochter von Marcello Mastroianni und Catherine Deneuve, findet sich während eines Sommers in ihrem eigenen Leben erschüttert wieder. Sie beginnt zu glauben, dass sie lieber das Leben ihres Vaters führen sollte. Nun kleidet sie sich wie er, spricht wie er, atmet wie er – und das mit solcher Überzeugungskraft, dass ihre Mitmenschen anfangen, sie «Marcello» zu nennen.
