Sofia Nappi won several awards with her very first works, most recently first prize at the International Choreography Competition in Hanover in 2021. With her captivating piece "IMA", Nappi creates a dance space for creation, design and renewal.

The dance of the old men jumping around in peasant clothing is awkward but touching in its doll-like exuberance; Sofia Nappi's piece is irritating due to the contrast between the wrinkled (mask) faces and the amazing acrobatics of their wearers. The young choreographer accepts the transience of bodies and finds beauty in the impermanence of our outer shells. In her idiosyncratic style, she captivates with virtuoso punchlines against a minimalist, subliminal dynamic and, in her penchant for the grotesque, is inspired by both the Gaga-like nonchalance of Israeli dance and the rustic gnarliness of the Nordic countries.
