Handling the Undead

It is a sultry summer evening in Oslo and strange things are happening. Flocks of birds gather ominously in the twilight sky, the alarms of the parked cars suddenly go off, the traffic lights go crazy, there is a power outage - and the dead awaken. Anna recently lost her young son. Her father dug up his grandson from the cemetery at nightfall and brought him home because he could not bear to watch his daughter suffer with grief. Tora buried her partner that afternoon, but now she is standing silently in the shared kitchen. David and his two children lost their mother in a car accident that evening, but she seems to have come back to life. But the dead are not really alive. What are they and what do they want? "Handling the Undead" is a very special zombie film: mysterious, thoughtful and quiet, it is also a story about grief, loss and hope and is fascinatingly terrifying for that very reason. Thea Hvistendal's directorial debut is based on John Ajvide Lindqvist's screenplay, whose works "Let the Right One in" and "Border" have already been successfully adapted into films.
