Venice around 1800: Teresa, known to everyone as "the mute", lives in the College of Sant'Ignazio, a music school for poor young women. No one suspects her extraordinary talent, which enables her to experience reality as rhythm. While everything in the college revolves around the upcoming visit of the newly enthroned Pope, Teresa discovers a beautiful but also somewhat sinister new invention in a storage room - a piano. A group of young women gather around Teresa and the "music machine", initially as rivals, but increasingly as accomplices. Against the will of the college's conductor, they develop their own vision of music - inspired by their world, their feelings, the rhythm of their being. The result is a revolutionary, feminine sound that the world certainly did not expect...
