Sometime in the not too distant future. Scientific progress has made it possible to precisely control the genetic combination of humans during conception in the laboratory. The test-tube human of the future is almost perfect. Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke) owes his life and his genes to natural love, not to the laboratory, like his younger brother. In the future, someone like Vincent will be an 'invalid', an 'unfit', with zero chance of a social or professional career. But Vincent has hopelessly old-fashioned faith in himself, his passions, feelings and dreams. He wants to become an astronaut for the gigantic Gattaca corporation, which controls people down to the smallest detail. He wants to go into space, to Titan, the 14th moon of Saturn. He risks everything for this dream. He assumes the identity of another. Vincent seems to have almost reached his goal, when an unforeseeable act of violence threatens to destroy him. Not only could he be exposed as a fraudster, but he could be convicted of murder as an innocent man...
