A unique railway line runs through Mauritania: 700 kilometers of tracks have been running through the Sahara since 1963. It was built primarily to transport iron ore to the Atlantic coast. Every journey is a challenge for people and materials - for example, due to sudden sand drifts or free-roaming camels. The train has become indispensable for many desert dwellers.
